Photo Essay – Hiking around Furri, Zermatt

30 Mar

My trips to Europe have taught me that the best way to experience this beautiful landscape is to visit its small towns and villages and walk or hike through them. And during our trip to Zermatt we did just that. We walked and hiked through a small village of Furri and its surrounding landscape. And I am sharing some of these stunning sights via a photo essay below –

1. Our starting point of the walk / hike, the beautiful village of Furri. There was snow in parts around adding another dimension to the existing patches of green, yellow, brown and gold

2. We walked through numerous rough paths leading into the snow-covered areas with some parts hidden in snow and some with melting snow

3. And then we came across a small brook (right out of an Enid Blyton book) that we crossed via a wooden bridge of a tree bark 🙂

4. Saw coniferous trees all around that I was told constantly keep growing in the hope to someday touch the sky

5. Crossed a long swinging suspension bridge with a deep chasm and stream below us and further on connecting us to some other gorgeous sights

6. We then stumbled upon a picnic area that was complete with everything that you may need on a summer picnic i.e. a log hut, a seating area, swings and even a barbecue. But what we all loved was zipping across a kiddie zip-line / flying fox 🙂

7. One of my all time favorite sights was that of  snow melting on dried shrubs and the droplets of melting water blinking in the sunlight

8. All along the walk, markers such as the one below lead the way. Saw them for the first time out of my textbooks

9. Had fun trampling through this day old snow and leaving our footsteps all along the way

10. We walked along these golden rust paths with our own voices and sounds for company

11. With an occasional mountain streams and the sound of flowing water joining us for a banter

12. And we ended the walk at this beautifully quaint house and this gorgeous goat shaped trough 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed this walk and I hope virtually you did it too 🙂

Switzerland has extraordinary mountains, but my guess is that you have to be very well prepared to be able to hike them. Besides Zermatt, there’s also Jungfraujoch, one of the highest peaks of Switzerland and the biggest glacier of the Alps. The view is breathtaking! Did you visit other parts of the country, as well?

Switzerland is a beautiful country but we had limited time. Hence just saw Interlaken, Zermatt and a small bit of Zurich… But another trip has to be done for sure 🙂

Lovely blog and post. Especially thrilled to discover that you are a vegetarian on the move. I am one too and know how hard it can be. Look forward to getting a lot of tips from you.
