Taste of my visit to Europe – Waffles and Cream

3 Feb

Whenever you think of waffles, the first image that comes to mind is a version of a typical Belgian Waffle (flat in a round or square shape) dusted with powdered sugar / cinnamon and served with fresh cream / ice – cream (optional). While we had our fill of those waffles in Brugge (we just couldn’t stop eating those either and later on realised that we were so busy eating that we did not take a single picture), we found another version of these waffles in Monschau.

Waffles

Monschau is a small German village and we found these waffles in a small family run coffee shop near the centre of the town. In the pic you can see that there are 2 folded waffles, 2 scoops of ice – cream (vanilla and chocolate) and a huge dollop of fresh home-made cream on the top.

These waffles had a slight biscuit kind of texture, were very soft and extremely light. The ice – cream and fresh cream were also home-made and very tasty.

For some reason, the fresh cream that we ate in Europe was very different from the fresh cream I have eaten anywhere else in India.

Anyways, this tasted really divine and can be eaten for breakfast, brunch , snacks or as the Germans would say for “Kaffeeklatsch” (means the usual gossip session while sipping a cup of coffee with a piece of cake).

Well I could sure do with one now. 🙂
