Whenever people visit Singapore and decide to go shopping – they either hit one of the many malls (on Orchard Street) or like my fellow Indians hit the Mustafa stores (in Little India).
But if you ever find yourself in Singapore and have the time for some unusual shopping, then please make the effort and visit Chinatown. No, it’s not recommended for the cheap Chinese goods, but for finding some of the most unusual stuff and that too of all kinds. It’s one of those places that you can literally find anything – from the most quaint of things to the most funny / weird stuff and the likes of me can just spend hours browsing through it all.
I and Archi visited Chinatown on one short trip to Singapore. During our window shopping, we saw some funny acupuncture gadgets, a wide variety of chinese tea, some weird weapons and tools (some of which I just couldn’t understand the usage of), some dried shell animal earrings, funny chinese medicines, beautiful chinese new year gifts and decorations (I had visited Singapore close to the Chinese New Year), a pig with straw which grows grass on watering, etc etc. We had spent an entire afternoon going mad exploring this market.
However amongst all this, my favourite shop was a tea-pot store with the most amazing variety of tea pots available for sale.
This shop had tea-pots in all shapes, sizes, material (ceramic, porcelain) and earthy colors. The shapes included animals, flowers, fruits, cakes, houses, engraved, baseballs etc etc… basically you name it and they had it. But my personal favourite was the elephant tea-pot that you can see in this picture. They even had beautiful tea sets.
But sadly I couldn’t buy it as I was travelling to another place in between (before coming back home) and couldn’t risk breakage. 😦
So, if you happen to be in Singapore then do visit this store and see all the beautiful tea-pots for yourself. You might even be tempted to start drinking tea for these.. 🙂
But where was this tea shop?
I just found your blog whist trying to find a tea pot shop here in Singapore, as I’m looking for one to get a tea set from in the next 2 days.

This tea pot store is in China Town in Singapore. The moment you enter the main lane of China Town, this shop is a few stores down in the lane and on your right.
