Creating Happy Travelers – in South Africa

9 Sep

Yatra.com has asked a question on Indiblogger.in – If you could take your family or friends to any place on the planet, where would that be and how would you make your trip the happiest one ever?

For me the answer is quite simple, I will take my parents on a trip that they have always wanted i.e. to visit South Africa. I have traveled extensively to international destinations with my sister, my friends, my colleagues but somehow we have never traveled abroad for a family vacation. I think its time for me to remedy this!

My parents love game reserves and watching animals live their daily lives in their own territories and Africa has always been the favored destination. But after  a family friend moved to South Africa for work and regularly started posting pictures online, we discovered the destination – South Africa. Through their pictures we saw the sheer variety available for any traveler’s dream vacation in a single country – stunning landscapes, amazing game reserves, various adventure sports, rich history and their own struggle for freedom, amazing people, to just name a few. Hence South Africa was the destination decided for our very own dream family vacation.

Since we all love landscapes and game reserves, we want to start our visit from Johannesburg and visit the most popular Kruger National Park. I personally would love to see the Lion in all its splendor and command over its jungle, but will not complain if I get to see all of the Big 5 in one trip itself ;). We want to spend at least 2 – 3 days here and see all possible animals along-with the diverse landscape and experiment with wildlife photography to our heart’s content. Post that we want to visit and spend the next 10 – 12 in and around Cape Town. We want to first spend some time soaking in the Cape Town multiculturalism and experience its sights, history, culture, fashion, food and then head to the iconic Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope, for the stunning views and landscapes all around. We also want to try some of the local adventure sports here such as shark diving, riding an ostrich, whale watching, wind surfing, and the list goes on.  And post all this, we want to drive along the scenic Garden Route all the way to Port Elizabeth. Since this itinerary includes activities that are of interest to everyone in the family we believe that will be the perfect family vacation.

However the best or the happiest holiday needs much more than just a good / all rounded itinerary. The most important parts and the least fun part of any successful holiday are the flight and hotel bookings. Thankfully we now have online travel service providers that make life much easier and simple in terms of all bookings and planning. Still choosing the right travel portal is essential as the partner has to be both – experienced in such bookings (to avoid any mistakes and unwelcome surprises) and reliable (we don’t want to be swindled over bookings and realize on arrival that the hotel that we have booked does not exist).

Hence we’ll use Yatra.com, India’s biggest and most trusted online travel agency, for all our planning and bookings. I have used Yatra.com for bookings before and self discovered that it truly  works along its motto “Creating Happy Travelers”. They are a leading online travel service provider in India, US and UK and help all travelers find and book the cheapest tickets for flights, trains, bus, hotels and everything associated with successful holidays. With over 5,000 hotels in India and more than 90,000 hotels associated with them worldwide, they will always find an appropriate hotel for you no matter what the budget. With them, its like all the headache of the travel planning is taken over by them and all you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy that dream vacation.

So with all flights, hotels and transfers booked via Yatra.com, all we will be left to do will be to enjoy a hassle free vacation and truly return as Happy Travelers. Hence this is to many Yatras to happen through with yatra.com.

This post is my entry to Indiblogger’s contest Creating Happy Travellers, in association with Yatra.com.

Have you been there? I have heard Zanzibar is very close to Mumbai and can be done as a long weekend trip too.

Lovely destination. Good info… but does a lot of info make a traveller happy? Or does happiness come on when one merges with the locals and the locale? Just asking.

You had expressed interest in viewing other blogs which I wrote while we travelled in South Africa a year ago. If you go to my blog, scroll down the right side to Hermitage. “Africa” is the first tag. Click on this. It will pull up only the blogs which I put in this category. Enjoy reading.
