I am on cloud 9 today and extremely excited to share with you all, that our Irani Cafe walk (which many of you may have followed on Facebook and Twitter on November 17) has been featured in today’s DNA Mumbai Downtown Edition, in an article titled “Old World Charm and Irani Cafes”.
Since I have been bitten by the travel bug, I have been lucky to have traveled extensively within India and also a few countries abroad. But somewhere along the way I realised that while I have traveled across numerous cities, somehow I have neglected to explore my own. And that’s when the idea of exploring my own city as a tourist took root (read more on this in my post Mumbai Local). Then in one of the travel meetups I met another travel blogger, Priyanka Dalal, who shared my views and together we set out to explore the hidden charms of this city we call home. Along the way we met Dipti who also joined us on this quest and has written this article.
Reading more on Mumbai we came across an article “The Tale of Mumbai’s Irani Cafes” that writes about how the world of these quaint Irani Cafes is sadly coming to an end. And hence we decided to experience these cafes before they finally closed their doors in Mumbai.
As written in the article on our walk, we just managed to complete a part of the trail and some places are still pending. I hope to complete the trail soon and then write a detailed post for you all to follow and experience these cafes for yourselves.
You can also read the complete article here and do share your thoughts / suggestions below or tweet at traveler_budget. 🙂

Congratulations! I love cafes like this…ones that bring the spirit of the country to people who walk in rather than just some cookie cutter cafe. Awesome!

Thanks. I so agree with you, cafes like this have a character and a rich history associated with them, which adds to the charm of the place and has a story or two to share.. Visiting cafes like these for me is like being a part of that story or history 🙂

Why is it that anytime a person finds just the right thing to love, restaurant, cafe, lipstick, whatever, it closes or is no longer available.

I know… Murphy’s Law I guess 😦 But I do hope that these cafes do survive as they are a part of Mumbai’s history.

These are the type of food finds that absolutely inspires me. And I hope that people talk about them more, so that an era doesn’t fade away. Your new quest ‘Mumbai Local’ has been a good idea… keep at it:)

Congratulations on your article! How sad that these places are soon to disappear… although on the other hand we can’t stay stuck in time, either. It’s a matter of choosing carefully what to keep.

Thanks.. I know what you are saying but still I feel that every city should retain some part of heritage and culture. Else it will not have any character just modern buildings and the latest trends to show 😦

Well, that’s why we have to choose carefully what to keep 🙂 .

Congratulations, and I am so happy to see that your little cafe is doing well! I get dismayed sometimes to think that most of our options are being replaced by large corporations and chain stores… sorry, but small stores just have more character!
