Panoramic Views from Little Matterhorn

Our  second day in Matterhorn was like opening a big gift hamper where we just didn’t know what was in it and every time we pulled a gift out, it seemed to be even better than the previous gift. So after an eventful morning of playing in the snow and walking in a Glacier Palace, we went out to finally see the panoramic Alpine views from Little Matterhorn.

In the main tunnel after the ski station, there is an exit for the Little Matterhorn  / Viewing Platform and after a short climb (of around 10 steps) we arrived at the Little Matterhorn or the viewing platform to enjoy the beautiful landscape all around.

Little Matterhorn is Europe’s highest viewing platform (at an altitude of 3,883 metres) and unless you trek up the Breithorn or the Matterhorn, there is no other viewing or vantage point.  This viewing platform has a gorgeous 360 degree panoramic view of the Alpine peaks from three different countries – France, Switzerland and Italy and of course close up views of the Breithorn and views with a different angle to the Matterhorn.The views are absolutely breathtaking and you feel like you are in a different world. I definitely felt that I was transported into Snow Queen’s kingdom of Narnia. 🙂 Sadly I couldn’t take a lot of pictures as within minutes of our reaching there, the weather took a turn for the worse and clouds covered the gorgeous views.

From here, Breithorn is very close and we saw a group of people actually hike up. Apparently if you have the correct equipment and a guide, then you too can go up too (it’s not that tough). And I have added it to my next visit “Definitely To Do” list. 🙂

Though the views were gorgeous, we couldn’t stand there for very long as it was too cold (-12 degrees) and we froze to our bones. Hence after a few group pictures and crazy shots we decided to return and continue towards the next main item on the agenda – Food 🙂
