“Czech” this out :)

22 Feb

When we had visited Europe in 2010, we had started our trip with Czech Republic and we couldn’t have been more happier with our choice. Even though the weather acted as a quite a spoil sport  (it was raining and the temperature was 12 °C when we landed), we still (both I and my sister) loved the place.

Apart from the actual touristy stuff, which I will write about in a separate post, we saw some pretty unusual and pretty sights here. Sharing some of them in a photo essay below –

These are man holes (or at least that’s what we call them in India). Both Prague and Cesky Krumlov have cobbled streets and these beautiful man-holes with the name of the city written on it and the picture of the local castle (Prague Castle in Prague and the State Castle of Cesky Krumlov in Cesky Krumlov) engraved on it. They also have holes to drain the rain water (I wonder why we don’t try this in Mumbai instead of leaving these man-holes wide open during monsoons).

The image below is of an exhibition that was being held at the State Castle of Cesky Krumlov. Well the “finger” design has a whole new meaning and inspiration to me now.

I super loved these window panes that we saw near the town square in Cesky Krumlov. The shape of the houses in the window pane is like the local houses in the city.

For some time, I thought that even I would so like to have similar window panes someday. But then the thought of having lean tall buildings (the Mumbai building design) on my window panes obtructing limited sunlight didn’t seem very interesting. So the idea went out of the window. 🙂

Guess what are the balloons on the pole below made of? No, it’s not plastic but Glass. Czech Republic is famous for its Bohemian Glass and you see some beautiful and colorful glass things all around. You seriously have to see it to believe it.

In Holland we call it a put (pit). It is there for the water to go in, when it is raining.
Nice picture ,I made it too and Cesky Krumlov is also a very nice.
    Thanks for sharing this.
